VurHelle · for iPhone, iPad and Mac

Something not working, or a question the game does not answer? Write to [email protected]. Tell us your device and what happened, and we will get back to you. Every enemy you have met is explained in the game, under Enemies.

1. How do I play?

You fly GelHelle’s courier out into the swarm’s own space. It moves freely like a fighter plane and fires ahead; the swarm’s ships come at it in waves, mostly from ahead. Shoot them down, fly through the capsules they drop for more firepower, raise the dome when the fire gets heavy, and set off the nova when they come too close. Each level ends with something big that has to fall: a carrier, a sector’s elite, or its boss. Clear it with as much of the hull left as you can for three stars. You can watch the flight from high above and to the side (ISO) or from behind the ship (BEHIND), and change at any time.

2. What are the controls?

DeviceControls
iPhone and iPadPush the stick at the bottom right and the ship flies that way; push lightly to move slowly. Or drag anywhere else and the ship follows your finger. DOME and NOVA are at the bottom left, VIEW at the top right, and the button by the score pauses. Left-handed? Turn on Left-handed in the pause menu and the stick and the buttons swap sides.
MacArrows or W A S D fly the ship; hold Shift to move slowly. Space raises the dome, E sets off the nova, V changes the view, Esc pauses. Or fly toward the mouse pointer; the right button raises the dome. To leave, choose Quit game.
Game controllerThe left stick or the d-pad flies the ship. The left trigger or left shoulder raises the dome, the right shoulder sets off the nova, View changes the view, Menu pauses.

The ship fires by itself. Turn Auto fire off to fire yourself: hold the stick on screen, your finger, J or Z, the right trigger, or A.

3. How do levels and sectors open?

The journey is seven sectors of twenty levels, from the Rings out to the Black Hole at the swarm’s heart; each sector’s tenth level ends on its elite and its twentieth on its boss. Win a level and the next one opens. With the full game every sector’s first level is open, so you can fly the sectors in any order; within a sector the levels still open one after another. Pick a level on the map and choose Fly.

4. What is free, and what is the full game?

The first sector, the Rings, is free: all twenty of its levels, its elite and its boss, to keep. The full game is one in-app purchase that opens the other six sectors and the Long Run. There are no ads, no subscription and nothing else to buy. Bought once, it opens on every iPhone, iPad and Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. Get it from Unlock all sectors on the title screen or on the levels screen.

Have a code? Choose Redeem a code on the same page, or redeem it in the App Store under your account. If a device does not show your purchase, choose Restore purchase there. Payments and refunds are handled by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com.

5. What is the Long Run?

The endless mode: one unbroken flight through every place in turn, harder each time round, until your ship is lost. Between places the courier jumps on, its shield refilled and some of its hull mended. Your best score and the most stages you have cleared are kept. It is part of the full game, under The Long Run on the levels screen.

6. Where is my progress kept?

On your device only: the levels you have won and their stars, your best scores, the Long Run’s best, the enemies you have met, and your settings. Deleting the game deletes them. They travel to a new device only in a backup of your device.

7. What can I change?

On the levels screen and in the pause menu: the view (ISO or BEHIND), auto fire, sound, music and vibration; on iPhone and iPad, left-handed. The game follows your device’s Reduce Motion setting.

8. Which devices can play it?

iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, and Mac with macOS 26 or later. On iPhone the game is played with the phone held sideways. A game controller works on every device.

9. Health and safety

VurHelle has flashing lights, explosions and a shaking camera. A very small number of people can have a seizure when exposed to flashing lights or patterns, even with no history of epilepsy. If you or anyone in your family has had a seizure or epilepsy, ask a doctor before playing. Stop playing at once and see a doctor if you notice dizziness, blurred vision, twitching, disorientation or any involuntary movement. Play in a well-lit room, take a break every hour, and stop if your hands, wrists or eyes get tired or sore.
